Hovertravel's Best Bestival Ever September 2011
Hovertravel, the fastest Isle of Wight passenger service across the Solent and to the Bestival, has had great success ferrying both festival goers and commuters to and from the island. For the 2011 Bestival weekend, Hovertravel used the three craft in its current fleet to keep a consistent shuttle service in operation.
As with previous festivals, Hovertravel implemented their queuing system designed especially for coping with crowds. Regular commuters were given priority boarding. Even on the peak travelling days of Thursday and Monday, festival goers experienced a much shorter wait than in previous years.
Pete, a businessman on his way to work with Hovertravel, said: “The service has been very good and it doesn’t even seem that busy, you’d never know that there was a festival on. It’s well organised. I have my 40 travel card which means that I’ve got priority boarding. Even with the wet and winds the hovercraft is still running regularly which is great.”
Caz, on her way to the Bestival with Hovertravel, said: “Hovertravel is quick and convenient and it means that we don’t have to go all the way to the ferry port; plus they play Bjork at the front of the queue, it’s great. “
Whilst other festival goers just appreciated the quirkiness of travelling on such an iconic method of transport, with one passenger, Trevor, commenting “I’m taking the hovercraft over to Bestival sounds a lot cooler than I’m taking the ferry and it’s a lot more exciting.”
