Treasure hunt fun at Gatwick Airport

Treasure hunt fun at Gatwick Airport

Gatwick Airport became the unlikely venue for an unforgettable day’s treasure hunt for the children of Chestnut Tree House Hospice last week.

On Friday June 3 the children enjoyed a range of activities at the airport with hand-drawn treasure maps, monorail rides, police dogs, fire engines and lunch overlooking the runway.

It was the first time many of the children would have been to an airport. The treasure hunt was organised by Your Service Centre, Gatwick Airport’s passenger helpdesk and it aimed to offer these children an incredible day to remember and a much needed distraction from their everyday lives. Chestnut Tree House provides specialist palliative care services to 300 children and young people from birth up to the age of 19 with life-shortening conditions in East Sussex, West Sussex and South East Hampshire. The services offered there include assessment, advice and information for children and young adults with life-shortening conditions, specialist short breaks, emergency care, step down from hospital and end of life care.

The treasure hunt was one of several ‘experiences’ that have been arranged for the children by Your Service Centre. As a result it is the running for the Chestnut Tree House 2017 Business Awards, being launched in September at Crawley Town Football Club.

With less than seven per cent of the hospice’s running costs being met by Central Government, these bi-annual awards recognise and reward the many businesses and employees who have provided support to the hospice over the past couple of years.
