Support in the Community
Each year the Bland Group Board allocates funds for family members Joseph, James, Arabella and Rosanne to actively support a number of initiatives and programmes close to their hearts, under the aegis of the Gaggero Foundation. A special emphasis is placed on supporting local charities, small organisations and individual initiatives working to protect the more vulnerable members of society, with a particular interest in supporting projects within the geographic areas of Gibraltar, Morocco and Andalucia.
The key priorities are:
Education
The Foundation is committed to helping schools, higher education establishments and scholarship programmes which need assistance to provide funding for cultural and educational opportunities within the community. In Gibraltar it is proud to be associated with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme, the Gibraltar Philharmonic Society, and the Young Enterprise Scheme. In addition, the Foundation funds seven Pilot Scholarships and Bursaries at the Guild of Air Pilots, Navigators and The Air League.
Social and Ecomonic Development
The Foundation supports organisations which promote informed debate and understanding of the social and political problems faced throughout the world today. A recent substantial donation enabled the complete refurbishment and modernisation of the Joseph Gaggero Hall at Chatham House. Particular emphasis is placed by the Foundation on supporting local charities, small organisations and individual initiatives working to protect the more vulnerable members of society. As Patron of the Fundacion Hispano Britanico, Joseph Gaggero has strong associations with its annual programmes. Supporting this association, his son James has made available one floor of the historic Cloister Building in Gibraltar to the Instituto Cervantes in liaison with the Spanish and Gibraltar Governments.
Health
The Foundation supports charitable work in the areas of direct community care, health education, disease prevention programs, and disaster relief. It is an associate of Breakthrough Breast Cancer and supports all the good work that this exceptional charity carries out.
