Hovertravel names Wessex Cancer Trust as charity of the year

The Wessex Cancer Trust has been selected as thechosen charity of Hovertravel for 2021 with the hovercraft operator havingplanned a number of fundraising opportunities during the next 12 months.

Neil Chapman, managing director at Hovertravel, said: “We have worked with Wessex Cancer Trust for many years, both inpractical terms as the fast connection for cancer patients crossing the Solentfor treatment and as a facilitator for fund-raising activity to help save theDaisy Bus.

More recently during the pandemic we collaboratedto create a COVID-secure charter to give confidence to patients who have neededto keep travelling through all three lockdowns.

If the events of the last 12 months have highlightedanything, it is the need to support those charities that are making such adifference to the lives of people with complex health conditions. We arelooking forward to seeing just how much we can raise for the Wessex CancerTrust and we know the local communities on both sides of the Solent will addtheir support too.”

Every year around 23,000 people are diagnosed with cancer withinthe Wessex region. Formed in 1981, Wessex Cancer Trust helps and supportsanyone affected by cancer regardless of age, gender or type of cancer. Theirdedicated team are committed to offering free support for as long as peopleneed it, away from a hospital environment. "We're so grateful to Hovertravel for choosingto support us as their charity of the year. Our long relationship withHovertravel through the Daisy Bus transport initiative and our jointcollaboration on a Travel Charter for cancer patients means we have anespecially close working partnership.  2020 forced us to cancel themajority of our fundraising events but, with the help of businesses likeHovertravel, we have been able to continue to support people affected by cancerduring this difficult time. 2021 is our 40th birthday and we have some reallyexciting events in the pipeline so keep an eye on our website and social mediafor details!"
